Hi, it’s just a quick email to say how much we enjoyed the recent DSC1 course we attended with Mike Fellows on Tuesday. We only attended the Tuesday ( as already have the Large / Small game meat hygiene).
Mike was really engaging and helpful from the moment we got there and covered everything plus a lot more with us on the day. I have not been in a classroom for years and was very apprehensive about doing so. There was no need, as the relaxed way Mike took the class put us all at ease. He covered so much more than he needed to which showed to us it wasn’t just another class, but really wanted to get across as much as he could in the time allowed, without over doing it and being to much. So much so that we are talking of maybe looking into more classes to aid our stalking and post process even further.

I had the pleasure of attending the DSC1 at Southdown Gun Club this week -end run by Mike Fellow.

I can truly say I really enjoy this course it was run really well. I learnt so much that I did not aspect to. Mike had a very relaxed  way in teaching what got the whole group talking and going through every thing what helped me as being dyslexic.

This was a great week-end and what I have learnt so much and achieved so much.

I am just writing to express my gratitude to Mike Fellows on running such a brilliant course recently.
His way of teaching and getting so much information across was excellent without making you afraid to ask questions or lose concentration and created a lovely atmosphere for everyone. Along with a very good venue at Chelsfield Farm.

My only thought is that 3 days to cram everything in is a bit tight and having perhaps an extra day as others do would certainly be better.

Hi there,

I just wanted to give some feedback for the above DSC1 course.

I just wanted to say how well this was ran and how friendly and approachable Mike was. 

Before booking I did speak to him regarding some concerns I had initially regarding my situation and needing to borrow a rifle which he assured me would not be an issue. 

It turned out a lot of people were in a similar situation to me - still waiting for my FAC to arrive.

The course material was well presented and we were taught everything we needed to know not only to pass the test but as a platform to develop our deer stalking knowledge both in the field and going forward.

I look forward to getting some experience in the field and then hopefully looking to take the DSC2 and other qualifications with Mike/NGO.

His ability to explain complex information clearly, combined with his patient and encouraging teaching style, made the learning process both engaging and highly effective. Would just like to say how good the DSC1 course I've recently attended in launceston and passed along with the meat hygiene course...Mike Fellows ran the course and he was excellent, very informative and a nice guy to get on with, alot learnt in a short space of time....I personally believe the course ideally needs to be 4 days rather than cramming it all in in 3days.....that said it was done professionally by Mike and I'm please with the outcome

I just wanted to pass on my thanks to you for organising the training course last week and to Mike Fellows for running the course.

I found the course informative and great value in time and cost spent on the course.  Mike ran both courses extremely well and juggled the requirements of assessment day to perfection.

The three people who attended the assessment day only,  mentioned to me how they almost felt like imposters being there just for the end and realised that Ben and myself had learned so much more  “in the margins” of the course, learning from all of Mikes many years experiences and walked away getting so much more than just what was learnt in the manual.

As I keen shooter of both feather and fur, i will be passing to all in know that i think even though its not (yet) a legal requirement, i do think it should be in some sort of form and that as a responsible hunter then i feel and will be advising all persons that they should attend the full course as a priority.

I have recently completed my DSC1 qualification with Mike Fellows in Savernake Forest, Wiltshire and would like to leave some feedback/a review for the record. 

As a complete novice to deer stalking, I found the whole course from the pre-course training manual to the physical assessment to be very thorough and it has provided me with knowledge and material for all future stalking. The training manual covered everything, but I found where I really gained the best insight was through Mike’s ability to teach and engage with us all as he was very passionate and knowledgable. He was especially helpful to me in the practical assessment, advising me beforehand during the zero-ing shooting. I thoroughly recommend the course and Mike, and I look forward to completing more courses with him in the future.

I recently attended a DSC 1 course and Game and Meat Hygiene course at Launceston 2-5 October 2025.

I just wanted to provide some feedback on the course instructor, Mike Fellows. 

I found Mike, who I’d not met before, to be thoroughly professional, technically knowledgeable and possessed of much emotional intelligence to deal effectively with group of students with starkly different knowledge and experience levels.  Rather than just focussing on “passing the exam” he used his vast experience to impart knowledge that reinforced the requirements of both courses. 

The overriding impression I got from Mike was a man who has a great deal of personal integrity and moral courage.  He is valuable asset to the NGO and just what you need to deliver such an important foundation course.

I just wanted to express my thanks to Mike and the NGO, having just completed the DSC1 course, ran by Mike Fellows in Savernake. 

It was a brilliantly ran course, with everything going above and beyond what I expected. Mike was very friendly, educational and led great topics of discussion as well as having a great sense of humour. I learnt masses on the course, due to the criteria but also how Mike led conversations and engaged all the audience with each subject. 

It was a great way to learn and I now feel a lot more confident in the field, but also with the meat I will now bring back home. 

I couldn't recommend the course enough!

I will now be looking to make steps in the future towards my DSC2
